Porter Legacy Dunes Grand Opening

Some things are worth the wait!

Behind the scenes work began in 2019. Protection came in 2020. Additional grant funding and planning for the trail system began in 2022. Boardwalk construction started last fall. And now . . . summer 2026, it’s ready . . .
PLEASE JOIN US IN CELEBRATING THE GRAND OPENING OF PORTER LEGACY DUNES!

Located directly across the street from Pilgrim Haven Natural Area on 18th Ave., South Haven, MI.

This new 48-acre lakeshore preserve features a fully accessible half-mile loop trail, scenic boardwalk, and elevated overlook with breathtaking views of Lake Michigan!

It's been conserved through a partnership between Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy and South Haven Area Recreation Authority and protects a rare forested backdune ecosystem – while also creating new opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to experience southwest Michigan’s lakeshore.

The Grand Opening celebration will include a brief program and naturalists stationed along the trail to share information about the preserve. Bring a blanket and a picnic to enjoy on the beach at Pilgrim Haven afterwards!
