Elsie J
Overview
The Elsie J. offers one of South Haven’s most memorable ways to experience Lake Michigan, blending classic charm with relaxed, personalized cruises. This beautifully restored 1945 fishing tug invites guests aboard for sunset cruises, morning and daytime outings, private events, and lively celebrations like bachelor and bachelorette parties. With space to spread out, passengers can enjoy the lake from above in the sun or below in the cozy interior, making each trip feel both comfortable and distinctive. Whether you are planning a quiet family outing, a special gathering with friends, or a private cruise tailored to your group, the Elsie J. delivers a one-of-a-kind experience on the water.
What makes the Elsie J. especially special is the history behind the boat itself. Built by Burger Boat Company in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, in 1945 for South Haven fisherman Chris Jensen, the vessel has remained part of the Jensen family story for generations. Once a working commercial fishing tug and now a licensed charter boat captained by Chris Jensen’s grandson, Captain Bob Jensen, the Elsie J. carries both heritage and hospitality into every cruise. Guests can enjoy not only the beauty of the lake, but also the character of an original Great Lakes workboat that has been thoughtfully adapted to welcome up to 17 passengers for unforgettable time on the water.
