MMM Lecture Series: The Story of Evelyn Wright Crawford & the First All-Women’s Crew in the Chicago to Mackinac Race

Overview
In 1905, Chicago socialite Evelyn Wright boarded a 32-foot sloop alongside her cousin Sara. They would become the first all-woman team to “man” a boat participating in the fledgling Chicago Yacht Club’s race to Mackinac. Join journalist and researcher, Mark Reid and Chicago Maritime Museum Curator, Madeline Crispell, as they share their research into the fascinating life of Evelyn Wright Crawford and the history of the Chicago Yacht Club’s famous Lake Michigan race.

About Our Presenters:
Madeline Crispell is the Curator of the Chicago Maritime Museum, where her exhibitions and public programs have focused on subjects ranging from architectural photography, to the history of women on the Great Lakes, to the Black Chicago impressionist, James Bolivar Needham.
Mark Reid is accredited media with the America’s Cup Event, SailGP and other international yachting events. He also does historical research for the Chicago Yacht Club’s Race to Mackinac History Project and is on the 150th Anniversary Committee for the CYC.
