1. The South Haven Ice Rink

Lace up and glide into winter at the South Haven Ice Rink. With lights, music, and freshly groomed ice, it’s a feel-good outing for all ages and skill levels, from confident cruisers to first-timers. Skaters-in-training can grab plastic skate trainers (think training wheels for the ice) for extra balance while they learn. Admission is $6, skate rentals are $6, or go all-in with a $70 season pass.

2. Watch the Lighthouse Morph Into an Ice Castle

In winter, South Haven’s red beacon turns into a full-on ice castle, with waves freezing around the pier and “ice whiskers” clinging to the lighthouse like crystal fringe. When conditions allow, the pier-to-pier harbor walk is a peaceful way to take it all in from the most scenic views. Keep an eye on the marina and river, too, where pancake ice, ice balls, and shifting sheets of frozen water gather and drift with the waves.

10. Winter Festivals & Attractions

South Haven’s winter attractions keep visitors coming back year after year. It all kicks off with our high energy New Year’s Eve Celebration on December 31, when downtown turns into one big dance floor. Families and friends fill the streets for music thumping in the center of town, our signature drop of 1,000 beach balls at midnight, and a marvelous fireworks finale over the harbor. Shops and restaurants stay open late, so you can toast, dine, and welcome the new year in true South Haven style. Start the new year on a festive note and wake up refreshed with a cozy overnight stay!

A few weeks later, winter fun continues with Ice Breaker, our “coolest” three day festival featuring ice sculptures, sled races, a snowsuit fashion show, and a fiery chili cook off where local restaurants go head to head for bragging rights.
