A Guide to South Haven's HarborFest and Mermaid MegaFest
South Haven’s HarborFest is continuing for its 28th year as an annual celebration of the city’s maritime history. Thousands gather for the food, music, and fun atmosphere that has activities for all ages. This year the festival takes place on June 14th and 15th and has added a nautical splash with mermaids and pirates taking the streets. This is an event you won’t want to miss!

The biggest birthday bash in South Haven history will kick-off the community’s Sesquicentennial celebration on Friday, May 10 when residents gather in historic Stanley Johnston Park for a picnic featuring free food, entertainment, activities for kids and trips down memory lane.

South Haven and the Fruit Industry: A Success Story
In the early 1800’s, South Haven was shaped by the lumber industry and drew in many residents with the hint of potential that the Great Lakes, arable land, and growing businesses provided. The cultivation and shipping of fruit was the next major industry that helped the town’s growing prosperity. The efforts of many people helped South Haven gain its recognition as a part of Michigan’s fruit belt. The ample amounts of produce resulted in the creation of new businesses, new jobs, and ultimately, a new recognition that is still alive today.
