New Year's Eve in the Haven - Ringing in 2020!

Published: 12/20/2019 by Amanda Owens

It’s yet an end to another DECADE and South Haven is here to help you ring in the 2020’s with our second annual New Year’s Eve in the Haven event. We have it covered, from ice skating to drink specials, music and dancing, and entertainment for all ages!

First, let’s talk parking. Phoenix Street (the main downtown drag) will be closed at 3 PM so the setup for the event can smoothly commence, and partygoers will be able to safely mingle throughout the night. To avoid any mishaps, please make sure to plan accordingly. Luckily South Haven is perfectly equipped with several parking lots and side streets at no cost! Visit our website for a map of parking lot locations.

Now onto the fun part! First up on the timeline is the Youth Celebration at the South Haven Center for the Arts. This was a HUGE hit last year, to the point where the building reached its maximum capacity! To prepare for this year, the Center for the Arts is taking reservations for this special event. If you and your family are interested in attending, please make sure to call in advance to reserve your spot. Expect crafts, music and refreshments from 6 PM to 8 PM, with a special “early midnight” ball drop at 8 PM. Cost is $15 per family, and $10 for member families.

The South Haven Ice Rink, located downtown off Phoenix Street, and will be open for the night beginning at 7 PM. The first 250 skaters will be FREE! Ice skates are available for rent, or bring your own!

Beginning at 8 PM, the DJ will be playing all your favorites at the Phoenix and Center Street intersection, along with a 15’ LED screen and laser light shows! Make sure you get your special party favors that will be passed out around the DJ booth to amp up your celebrations! Street performers will be making an appearance from 9:30 PM to 11:30 PM, so keep an eye out for unique entertainment as the night goes on!

In addition, many downtown restaurants will be participating in the fun! Come inside and keep warm at Sophie’s Steakhouse, Black River Tavern, Clementine’s, Kitchen 527, Harbor Light Brewery, Phoenix Street Cafe, Taste, South Haven Brewpub, and Tello. Plenty to choose from, plenty to hop over to! Restaurants will be open until 11:30 PM, so get your food and drink specials in, then head out to the dance square!

Do you think you know South Haven? Participate in the South Haven 150 Photo Scavenger Hunt and turn in your answer sheets at the DJ booth between 10 PM and 11 PM to enter for your chance to win a VERY special South Haven memorabilia gift basket! The winner of the basket will be announced at 11:45 PM, and you must be present to win! Click here for the details and the downloadable answer sheet!

And now we have made it to the moment we all wait for during the New Year’s Eve day…the countdown, and the ball drop! Gather in the downtown square and have fun while special souvenir beach balls drop. Make sure to grab your own before they’re gone!

We hope you have a wonderful time celebrating and ringing in the New Year in downtown South Haven. Cheers to an exciting New Year!

If you haven’t already, make sure to book your room before the event begins. You don’t want to miss out on any of the fun! For your convenience, here’s the link to the lodging page on our website. We’re happy to help with any questions you may have concerning the event or lodging, so please don’t hesitate to call the South Haven Visitors Bureau: 269-637-5252.
