Celebrate the 1950s during South Haven’s Women’s Only Weekend

Published: 10/30/2018 by South Haven Visitors Bureau

South Haven is excited for the upcoming Women’s Only Weekend in November. The weekend’s theme is the 1950s and will run from November 8th to November 11th. Use our guide to plan the perfect weekend with the women in your life. The weekend has something for everyone to enjoy.  Read on to plot your ladies’ weekend in South Haven.

Throughout the Weekend

Don’t be surprised if you see I Love Lucy photos throughout Downtown South Haven. It is all part of our fun weekend. Keep track of where you see I Love Lucy cards on the game card you receive in your check-in packet. If you find all of the cards, you can be entered into a special prize drawing.

As part of the weekend’s "How Much is that Doggie in the Window" scavenger hunt, doggie figurines will be hidden at popular attractions, stores and restaurants. Be sure to check out the special page you receive in your welcome packet for more details.

You can pick up your packets starting at 3 p.m. and get settled in on Thursday (or wait until Friday to come to the city). Once you get settled, you can visit one of the many hotels and B&Bs that are offering wine and small bites. Another option is to check the happy hour specials throughout town.

Before joining us for the fun weekend, brush up on your 1950s facts so you can win the $250 grand prize for trivia night at Black River Tavern’s Riverbottom. Trivia runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., but the party is just getting started. Stick around for karaoke at Riverbottom too!

Check-in runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the South Haven Visitors Bureau.

Interested in brushing up or learning dance moves from the 1950s? You’ll want to head to the South Haven Center for the Arts at 3 p.m. The first 40 women will learn how to do the twist and more.

Looking to kick back and relax during the weekend? Visit the Hotel Nichols for a 15-minute spa service for just $10. There are a variety of pampering options to choose from between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Many personal pampering options are available around town

Be sure to reserve your spot online for a wine tour through Coastal Tours. The tour will take you to three wineries from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Pick-up for the tour starts at the main hotels in the area. Book your place by paying the $59 to cover the tasting fees, plus snacks throughout your stops. More details on the tour can be found on the Coastal Tours’ website.

In the evening, join us at the Baymont for 50’s fun featuring a fabulous 1950s band, spotlight dances, photo booth, costume contest, prizes and more. Interested in spending time downtown instead? Four venues will have live entertainment with food and wine specials you can enjoy. Be sure to dress to impress as our costume judges will be at all locations ready to give out prizes. The evening portion runs from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. with a shuttle or cabs available to take you to and from the locations.

Start your day with a fun run or walk along the water. At 9:30 a.m. stroll around the harbor, solo or with a group of friends and family. The run or walk starts at South Pier Lighthouse and goes to North Pier. Don’t forget to get your hand stamped once you arrive at the North Pier. It will get you a special prize at Bunde’s Bakery Cafe.

Did you miss out on the chance to dance yesterday? Don’t worry, 40 more women can participate in dance lessons today at the South Haven Center for the Arts at 11 a.m.

Have you started to think about the holidays yet? Well, we will get you in the holiday spirit with our ornament decorating workshop. All the supplies you need to make an ornament will be available at the South Haven Center for the Arts along with some instructors if you want help. Ornament decorating runs from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Chef Joel Gesiakowski of Taste

Test your cooking skills with the chef of Taste from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. The event does require pre-registration, which opens on Thursday at Taste.

Remember those dance moves you perfected earlier? Show them off at the Baymont Inn & Suites where a live 1950s band will be performing. At the Baymont, there will be dancing, a dance contest, a photo booth, and more! Check out the hotel or one of the downtown locations you didn’t visit on Friday night, so you can get your WOW Performer Passport stamped at the remaining locations. Don’t forget to bring your passport with you to brunch the next morning.

Cap off your weekend with a mouthwatering brunch. You won’t want to miss brunch hosted by Sophie’s. Starting at 8 a.m., you can enjoy breakfast favorites as well as a few items Sophie’s is known for (hint: steak bites). The brunch runs until 11 a.m. so be sure to get there early so you don’t miss out on all of the great food!

South Haven Visitors Bureau is looking forward to having all of you ladies in November for a fun-filled weekend! If you haven’t bought your tickets yet, they can be purchased here.

This weekend's theme is the 1950s!
