Laura's Little Burger Joint

This may come as a surprise to a lot of burger enthusiasts, but the best burger in Michigan is in Decatur. I never saw it coming. The "Chapman Burger" ($7.95 meal, includes fries and a drink): Two 7-ounce patties topped with two slices of pepperjack cheese, bacon and grilled onions, served deluxe with ketchup, mustard, pickle and onions. Owner Laura Green (maiden name Chapman) makes it on a flattop grill, and presses it with her grandmother's hand press. It's fresh, Gordon Food Service ground beef seasoned with a little salt and pepper at an 80-20 blend on an Aunt Millie's bun, lightly coated with mayo and then grilled. Maybe it's not as gourmet as some enthusiasts might like, but for price, taste and atmosphere of this roadside escape, it's heaven! My traveling buddy David Kutzko said the burger is "Huge without feeling cumbersome (though lick your fingers juicy, even though cooked medium). A uniformly great sandwich." I agree! Go. There. Now!
