In this class, children (Ages 5 to 8) will explore the worlds of art and imagination using a variety of 2-D and 3-D art materials. Learning experiences will place emphasis on learning about the elements and principles of art, having fun, and exploring creativity! Students enrolling in this class should be able to use scissors and write their names.
Pick and choose which weeks to attend or sign up for all six.
July 11: Me in Clay— Create a 3-D self-portrait
July 18: Wild Things— Learn about drawing the details of faces and then take it to the wild side. Be inspired by Max and Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.
July 25: Dogs in Space— Inspired by another children’s book, paint an outer space-like background and learn some stencil techniques to add dogs.
August 1: Printed People Playing—Learn a bit about depicting figures in motion. Printed foam, wood, and cardboard will become runners, dancers, ball players, and more.
August 8: 3-D Collage— Build with wood, found objects, wire, and more to create unique and fun sculptures.
August 15: Imaginary Garden—Inspired by watercolor artists in the Michigan Watercolor Society exhibition, students will have some fun with the flowing and transparent nature of watercolor.
Please note that age groupings for classes are used as guidelines for planning developmentally appropriate curriculum but we believe that parents/guardians know their children’s abilities, interests, and comfort levels best. We invite you to enroll your young person in the class(es) that seem best for them.
The South Haven Center for the Arts summer art classes for young artists are designed to encourage creativity and self-expression in a safe and supportive environment. Certified art teacher Sarah Rydecki will guide students through the processes and playful possibilities of art making.
Fill out registration forms on link for each class or in person at the center. We will invoice you for all classes.
