The South Haven Center for the Arts (SHCA) has worked with the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) to bring the DIA’s award winning program, “Inside/Out” to South Haven. The DIA has supplied 15 high quality reproductions of artwork to South Haven public spaces. The works are free standing and wall-mounted reproductions and include a label, which explains the piece.
The South Haven Center for the Arts is grateful for the support and approval of the City Council and the Parks Commission to install ten of the reproductions on city property including at City Hall, Monroe Bluff, SHOUT Park, Packard Park, and Elkenberg Park. The South Haven Visitor’s Bureau, Liberty Hyde Bailey Museum, and the new community garden on Huron Street are also participating in the project and will be hosting pieces on site. Cogdal Vineyards and Martha’s Vineyard will be participating and welcome visitors to their sites, and hope to draw more visitors in South Haven to see the works. A map of the project will be available online and printed, and the work will be on display from May 24, 2019 through November 2019.
Inside|Out is a popular component of the DIA’s community engagement efforts. Over the past 10 years, the museum has partnered with more than 100 communities and engaged tens of thousands of residents with art in places where they live, work and play. Salvador Salort-Pons, DIA director says “For a decade, this program has been bringing culture and history that must be experienced in person to the communities we serve, providing an experience that cannot be found on TV or the Internet.”
