SHOUT South Haven Theater Series presents, "This Wonderful Life." James Leaming was nominated for this year's Solo Performance Joseph Jefferson Award and "is brilliant in this one-man rendition of 'It's a Wonderful Life,' the Christmastime classic about a small town fella who learns the meaning of his life just as he's about to throw it away. Leaming serves as both storyteller and actor, playing all the parts as he recounts the familiar story of Frank Capra's 1946 film," according to Albert Williams of The Chicago Reader

"The story weaves in and out of scenes lifted directly from the film with Leaming offering observations and bits of trivia about the movie. In the film, guardian angel Clarence Oddbody gives George Bailey the opportunity to see how his town, Bedford Falls, would have turned out if he'd never been born. To set that up, the movie spends a great deal of time telling George's life story. On film, that can be a long slog, but in the 80-minute play, it's told swiftly and completely. And if you're a fan of the film, you probably can't get through the final scene without a few tears. With this play, you may get a little misty by the finale, but you'll also be uplifted by Leaming's tour de force performance. You needn't have seen the movie to appreciate the play, but it will enhance your appreciation of how much Leaming accomplishes onstage," wrote Pam Kragen of The San Diego Union Tribune.

James Leaming, a founding member of Chicago's American Blues Theater, has performed "This Wonderful Life" to raves at the following theaters: Florida's Asolo Repertory Theatre; New York's Syracuse Stage; Cleveland Playhouse; California's Laguna Playhouse and North Coast Repertory Theater; and numerous theaters in Colorado.
