Pet Friendly Hotels & Activities

South Haven has become an extremely popular vacation destination in Michigan for visitors with pets. You’ll find pet-friendly lodging, restaurants, activities and dog beaches in West Michigan. Here is a sampling of businesses in town which cater to pet owners:

Beach & Activities

West Michigan is home to several dog beaches. A favored pet-friendly spot on Lake Michigan is Deer Lick Creek Park & Beach. Aside from roaming the dog beaches and swimming, there are many other fun activities in West Michigan for dogs and their owners to take part in! In November, the South Haven Bark Park group has started the Santa Paws Parade. The Bark Park group has built the new dog park in South Haven, as well! In June, the Al-Van Humane Society hosts Paws on the Pier, a pet-friendly event that attracts hundreds of pet owners with its obstacle courses, free product samples, and education tent. Animal's Best Friend provides funds to help offset the costs of spay/neuter surgeries for cats and dogs. In this way, they work to reduce the pet overpopulation problem in Van Buren and Kalamazoo counties. Since ABF was founded in 1981, they have helped spay/neuter over 42,849 cats and dogs, saving thousands of unwanted kittens and puppies from being born.

Retail

Several South Haven stores allow dogs inside. A favorite for your four-legged friend is Decadent Dogs an upscale dog boutique located downtown. Offering a wide range of products for dogs and their owners and pet-friendly accommodations, the store has become a destination for dog lovers. The store now offers products for all budgets that still feel decadent. The selection of “made in Michigan” goods is also expanding; more work from local artists fill the shelves and dog treats from local bakeries entice not just the dogs but their owners too! Decadent Dogs also receives regular visits from puppies looking for homes. The Al-Van Humane Society often drops them off to visit with shoppers for the day. Many puppies have left the store with happy new owners! The humane society is also now distributing "Pets Welcome" window decals for all businesses downtown that are pet-friendly!
