Mitchell’s Satyr Butterfly Walk

July 8, Saturday, 11:00 am MITCHELL SATYR BUTTERFLY.   Sarett is one of the few places that has prime habitat for this federally endangered butterfly. Learn its habitat needs and natural history. We’ll include a walk to see if we can see the butterfly in flight.

July 13, Thursday, 3:00 pm  FROGS, TOADS & SALAMANDERS  Learn about the live amphibians of Sarett. $5/adult, $1/kids & members free.

 

Kayak the Kalamazoo River

July 15, Saturday, 9:00 am  KAYAK THE KALAMAZOO. Try your hand paddling from the dam to the pipeline take out.  Pack drinks, lunch and snacks.  Kayak, life preserver, paddle and transportation included. $30/person, $25/member.  Bring a little money for an ice cream stop on the way home. Butterfly House Special

July 16, Sunday,  1:00 to 3:00 pm  BUTTERFLY HOUSE SPECIAL.  Join us for a special afternoon in the butterfly house.  Harpist Meg Rodgers will be in the butterfly house playing a variety of music from pop to classical, from Gershwin to Disney. (Meg has even been persuaded to take requests).  Come sit awhile, watch the butterflies and relax to the peaceful harp music.  Soft refreshments will be available in the Butterfly House.  Regular Butterfly house admission fees apply. Sarett members $2/adults, $1/child,  non-members $6/adult and $2/child. (Raindate is July 23, 1:00 to 3:00 pm)

July 27, Thursday, 3:00 pm  SNAKE SHOW. Join a naturalist for a program about Michigan snakes.  $5/adult, $1/kids and members and their children/free.

 

Kayak Lessons at North Lake Park

July 30, Sunday, 2:00 pm  KAYAK LESSONS at North Lake Park for adults  and teens.  Learn the basics of kayaking in a gentle setting. Sarett will provide kayaks, life vests, paddles and instructions. $20/person.  Call 927-4832 to register.

Voyageur Canoe Rides

August  5 & 6,  Saturday and Sunday,  10:00 am to 4:00 pm VOYAGEUR CANOES.  Sarett naturalists will be at the St. Joseph River  Days in Niles with the Voyageur canoes providing a paddle experience on the St. Joseph River.

Kayak the Dowagiac River

August 12, Saturday, 1:00 pm  KAYAK THE DOWAGIAC RIVER from M-62 to Dodd Park.  Enjoy this gentle paddle.  Bring a hat, plenty of drinking water and snacks.  $25/person, $20/member includes transportation, kayak and equipment and Sarett naturalist guide.  You must call 927-4832 to register.

 

Breathtaking Butterflies

August 13, Sunday,  3:00 pm  BREATHTAKING BUTTERFLIES.  Join Ron Dudek and his amazing butterfly videos and clips for an in depth look at the fantastic lives of butterflies. Then visit the butterfly house to see the real thing. Members adult $3, member children $2. Non-member Adults $7.00 and non-member children are $3.

Discover a Spider World with Bob the Spider-Hunter

August 20, Sunday, 3:00 pm  DISCOVER A SPIDER’S WORLD with BOB THE SPIDER-HUNTERJoin YouTube personality, “Bob the Spider Hunter” as he takes you on a wonderful wildlife adventure into the world of spiders. Learn about the different kinds of spiders and what makes them unique; see some spiders up close and then go on an actual spider hunt to see if you can find and identify them after some guided instruction.  Fee: Members—  free, non-member adults $5 and non-member children $1.

 

Barn Party!

September 10, Sunday,  BARN PARTY!  Mark your calendar to join us for this annual fund raising event.  (Maybe we should start calling it the Non-Barn Party—we held last year’s event at the nature center building and it worked so well, we will be holding this year’s event in the great room again.
