Lake Michigan College Performs Hairspray

The Lake Michigan College Performing Arts Department presents the musical, “Hairspray” on The Mendel Center Mainstage, March 23 – 25.

“Hairspray” is a family-friendly musical derived from the John Waters’ 1998 film. It won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Performances will be on Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, March 25 at 3 p.m.

“Hairspray” is set in 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, has only one desire – to dance on the popular "Corny Collins Show." When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob, Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network... all without denting her 'do! “This play is full of fast-paced non-stop laughter, corny jokes, romance and famously infectious songs,”   Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
